Standpipes

The Shire of Cuballing provides access to standpipes for community use, emergencies related to firefighting, roadworks, etc. There are two commercial standpipes that ratepayers and contractors are able to access, one in Cuballing and the other is situated in Popanyinning.

Cuballing Standpipe

Situated on Ridley Street, Cuballing

Popanyinning Standpipe

Situated on Franics Street, Popanyinning

As some properties within the Shire of Cuballing are not on Scheme Water, the Standpipes are an essential service for property owners. Unfortunately, as these are classed as commercial standpipes, no concession rate is allowed by Water Corporation.

Customers who wish to purchase water from the commercial standpipe can do so via an electronic standpipe management system operated with a swipe card. Swipe cards can be purchased from the Shire administration office. Invoices for standpipe usage are issued monthly.  Individuals and Companies can purchase multiple cards under the same account.

Applying for a Standpipe Swipe Card

To apply for a Standpipe Swipe Card, you will need to:

  • Complete the Standpipe Card application form
  • Purchase a Standpipe Swipe Card
  • Provide a copy of a valid Driver’s Licence

Standpipe Fees and charges

Water Rate (per 1000L or 1 Kilo Litre) $10.50
Swipe Card (Ratepayers)  $35.00
Swipe Card (Non-Rate Payer)  $55.00
Replacement Swipe Card  $35.00

The swipe cards unfortunately, can warp easily if left in the sun or in a hot place, so we advise they are kept away from the sun and in a safe place. If the swipe card is damaged, then a replacement card will need to be purchased from the Shire administration office. In the event that your swipe card is lent to another person or contractor, the account holder is liable for any charges made on that particular swipe card.

In the event of a fire, nominated Shire Staff will switch the commercial standpipe system to “Fire Control” remotely. This means a standpipe card will not be required in order to access water for firefighting. There is no charge for water used during a fire event.
