Pensioners and Seniors

Pensioner and Senior rebates are provided by the WA State Government to persons who meet the eligibility criteria under the Rates and Charges (Rebates and Deferments) Act 1992.

Am I eligible for Pensioner or Senior Rebate?

In order to receive a concession on your property, you must:

  1. Hold an appropriate Pensioner or Seniors card as detailed below.
  • Seniors Card (SC) – owner is entitled to receive up to 25% rebate on Local Government Rates and ESL Levy. The Rebate is limited to a maximum amount, and the deferment option is not available.
  • Seniors Card (SC) and a Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card (CSHC) – owner is entitled to receive up to a 50% rebate on Local Government Rates and ESL Levy. The deferment option is available.
  • Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) or State Concession Card (SCC) - owner is entitled to receive up to a 50% rebate on Local Government Rates and ESL Levy. The deferment option is available.
  1. As at 1st July of current financial year:
  • Be the owner or co-owner of the property or have a right to reside at the property under the terms of a will (documentation required)
  • Occupy the property as your ordinary place of residence
  1. Have registered with the Council or Water Corporation. A pro-rata rebate may be available from the date of registration to Pensioners and Seniors who became eligible after 1st July of the rating year.

Apply for a Pensioner or Seniors Rate Rebate 

Prior to applying for a rebate within the Shire of Cuballing, the concession must be lodged with the Water Corporation. You can contact concessions at Water Corporation on 13 13 85.

Even though your property may not be connected to the water mains, lodging your pensioner/seniors application via Water Corporation is still applicable. Pensioner and Senior Card Concession Rates 

Senior card holders my be entitled to 25% off of their Shire Rates and ESL levy, which is capped at $100. It is also dependent on the property ownership percentage. To claim the full 25%, a sole owner or both owners of a property need to hold a WA Seniors card.

Pensioners that hold a Pensioner concession card may be entitled to 50% off of their Shire rates and ESL levy, which is capped $750. Like the Seniors card, the rebate is dependent on the property ownership percentage. To claim the full  50%, both owners must hold a pensioner concession or the be the sole owner and hold a pensioner concession card.

You can obtain a 50% concession if you have a WA Seniors Card, along with a Commonwealth Seniors Card. This combination will give you a 50% discount off your Rates and ESL levy. Like the other concession rates, this is also subject to the ownership percentage on the property.

Rates Deferment 

Pensioner and Senior Cardholders are eligible for Rates deferment, however, should there be an outstanding balance on your rates at the 30th June (End of Financial Year), the rebate is automatically forfeited.
