The Shire of Cuballing is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and self­ motivated person to take on the role of Administration Trainee as part of our small office. The successful applicant will work under the direction of the Deputy CEO and complete both on the job training and attending studies off site. Duties will include customer reception, exposure to accounting and record keeping duties and assisting in delivering community events. The position is offered as a 12 month contract under the conditions of the Local Government Industry Award 2010.

Regional Travel Restrictions

The State Government will introduce further restrictions on travel within the State from midnight Tuesday, to assist in reducing the spread of COVID-19. From midnight Tuesday night (12am Wednesday morning), restrictions will be placed on travel within the entire State of Western Australia. Western Australians will not be permitted to leave their regional boundary. Police have the power to enforce these restrictions if necessary, and fines of up to $50,000 can be issued. Exemptions will apply in circumstances including employment purposes; medical or veterinary reasons; delivery of essential services including health or emergency services; people living across regional boundaries, who may not have access to groceries or supplies immediately within their region; transport of goods; compassionate grounds; a family member has primary care responsibilities; for school, TAFE or tertiary study reasons; to escape domestic violence; or due to an emergency.

In accordance with section 5.27 of the Local Government Act (1995), notice is hereby given that a General Meeting of Electors of the Shire of Cuballing will be held at the Popanyinning Hall, Francis Street Popanyinning on Wednesday 15th April 2020 commencing at 6:30 pm. Order of Business: Receive the Annual Report for the year ended 30 June 2019. General Business. Copies of the Annual Report 2018/19 are now available upon request at the Shire office during normal business hours and are also available on the Shire website.

The Shire of Cuballing continues to monitor the growing concern about the corona virus (COVID-19) and are taking action in accordance with the advice provided by the relevant health and government authorities. The health and safety of our staff, health workers, emergency service volunteers, local business owners and community members is a priority. Slowing the spread of the COVID-19 is essential in order for our health system to cope in the coming months. At this time the Shire of Cuballing intends to keep the Shire Office in Cuballing open.

ANZAC Day 2020

The Shire of Cuballing regrets to advise that the ANZAC Day Service planned for Saturday 25th April 2020 has been cancelled. RSLWA has cancelled the conduct of all ANZAC Day commemorations as a result of Friday’s announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, backed by the Commonwealth’s Chief Medical Officer and state premiers. The safety, health and welfare of all veterans and their supporters is paramount and, while cancelling the iconic and traditional ANZAC Day services is sad, health and wellbeing come first.

Compulsory Local Government Candidate Induction

This year new laws have been introduced which make it compulsory for all candidates who would like to become a Councillor and are nominating or renominating in a local government election to complete the Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries online induction. To be able to nominate in a Western Australian local government election, YOU MUST complete this induction. The induction should take no longer than an hour to complete. Please make sure you leave enough time to complete the induction so you can lodge your nomination form before nominations close.

Council operates under a 4 x 2 Electoral Cycle which simply means Councillors are elected for 4 year terms and elections are held every two years - where half the Council will be up for election. Council elections are now conducted on the First Past the Post System, whereby the person with the most votes is elected - no preferences are required. Council elections are held on the third Saturday in October every second year and this years election will be held on Saturday 19th October 2019. In accordance with the Land Administration Act 1997, the Shire of Cuballing is considering permanently closing a section of an unnamed Road Reserve between Williams Road and Popanyinning West Road in West Popanyinning. The purpose of this permanent closure of this section of unnamed Road Reserve is to facilitate the inclusion of the Road Reserve into neighbouring properties. This will allow the further development of the neighbouring properties and indirectly assist the activities operating from those properties.

Road Closure - Bradford Road Exchange

The Shire of Cuballing has closed Bradford Exchange Road, between Bradford and Shepherd Roads to all traffic until further notice. Bradford Exchange Road has been impacted by a fire and large burnt trees beside the road are still smouldering and could cause a traffic hazard in the high wind. Total Fire Ban

Under Section 46 of the Bush Fires Act, the Shire of Cuballing is issuing a Total Fire Ban, commencing immediately, until 9PM Thursday, 6th June 2019. The Shire of Cuballing also gives notice to landowners that all currently burning fires are to be extinguished. Recently extinguished fires should also be monitored ahead of the arrival of the rainband in case of flare up. FORECAST CONDITIONS A trough is approaching the west coast with northerly winds ahead of the trough becoming particularly fresh and gusty over the coming days. Temperatures are not as high as they would be if this weather pattern was to occur earlier in the year, however temperatures are above average for June, and humidity is below average (dry). Peak fire danger conditions on Thursday in the South West Land Division (SWLD).

The Shire of Cuballing is seeking feedback on all aspects of their draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan. The draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan seeks to describe how the Shire of Cuballing will working to make sure its services are accessible to everyone including people with disabilities. The draft plan can be viewed on the Shires website www.cuballing.wa.gov.au or copies can be made available on request and in alternative formats if required. This stage of the community consultation process closes on Wednesday 6th June 2019. After that time all information received will be reviewed prior to formal consideration by Council.

It is hereby advised that, in accordance with Section 18(5) of the Bush Fires Act (1954), the end of the Restricted Burning Period for the Shire of Cuballing has been extended from 19th April 2019 to Monday 22nd April 2019.
