Changes to Motor Vehicle Stamp Duty Rates
The Western Australian Government has announced changes in regard to motor vehicle duty tax cuts worth $197 million over the four years to 2010-11, with $27 million in the 2007-08, and $43 million in 2008-09.
- Motor vehicle stamp duty thresholds for light vehicles will be increased by $5,000 from 1 July 2007, with another $5,000 increase from 1 January 2009.
- Taxpayers purchasing a $35,000 vehicle will pay $263 less in motor vehicle stamp duty as of 1 July 2007 and $525 less as of 1 January 2009.
- From 1 July 2007, the single flat 3% stamp duty rate for new heavy vehicles will be extended to used heavy vehicles.
- From 1 July 2007, caravan purchases (together with camper trailers) will be exempt from stamp duty.
