Wednesday 5th SEPTEMBER 2018 COMMENCING 7.30AM - ROSE STREET, Then - SMITH STREET and MUNRO STREET The Shire of Cuballing will be undertaking roadside tree pruning and mulching in the town of Cuballing commencing Monday 3rd September 2018. This work aims to make our town streets safer and prune trees that are growing over roads and intersections. The roads to be treated include Cuballing East Road and parts of Munro Street, Clarke Street, Rose Street, Smith Street, Beeston Street and Darcy Street. Shire staff and contractors will be completing this work for approximately 2 weeks between the hours of 7.30am and 4pm on weekdays. This work will use heavy equipment, will be noisy and will involve traffic control, all of which may cause disturbance to residents. Once the work commences, the Shire will keep local residents informed daily about the progress of the work through the Shire website and Facebook page. The draft Local Planning Strategy (LPS), when finalised, will be the Council’s key strategic land use planning document. The LPS is intended to provide broad direction for the future growth and development of the district for 10 - 15 years. The draft Local Planning Strategy is currently a preliminary draft and will be modified following comments from the community and other stakeholders in 2018 and based on Western Australian Planning Commission requirements. It is highlighted that investment or associated decisions should not rely on the draft Strategy given the final endorsed Strategy will be different to the preliminary draft version. Shire of Cuballing Shire President Mark Conley has unveiled entry statements to Cuballing on the Great Southern Highway featuring sculptures completed by Shire employee Tim Bradford. Cr Conley paid tribute to Tim’s efforts and ingenuity in completing the two sculptures of the horses made entirely from horse shoes. While the horse sculptures have been completed and displayed for some years, the backdrop featuring the contrasting galvanised letters and rusty corrugated iron effect were recently completed.

End of Restricted Burning Period

The Shire of Cuballing’s Restricted Burning Period has now ended. Property owners and residents no longer need to obtain a permit issued by their local volunteer Fire Control Officer if they wish to light a fire Whilst there are no formal restrictions on lighting fires, property owners and residents are urged to still be cautious and responsible when doing so. If you wish to obtain advice about burning safely please contact your local volunteer Fire Control Officer who will be willing to provide advice. Permits will be for a specific time and location and may include conditions that the land owner is required to comply with prior to lighting the fire.

6pm Tuesday 13th March 2018 About 30 people attended a workshop at the Popanyinning Hall on Tuesday 13th March 2018 to discuss Popanyinning’s future. Respected facilitator Peter Kenyon motivated and led the group to focus on what might be possible or desirable in Popanyinning’s future. The thinking and discussion focused on four areas: What new things would we like to see in Popanyinning; What things that are in Popanyinning now do we really want to keep; What things in Popanyinning would we like to change; What things that have been lost in Popanyinning that we want to bring back.

The successful applicant will work under the direction of the Deputy CEO and complete both on the job training and attending studies off site. Duties will include customer reception, exposure to accounting and record keeping duties and assisting in delivering community events. The position is offered as a 12 month contract under the conditions of the Local Government Industry Award 2010.

The Shire of Cuballing has made a local law relating to Local Government Property. The purpose and effect of the Shire of Cuballing Local Government Property Local Law is: Purpose: To regulate the care, control and management of all property of the local government except thoroughfares. Effect: To control the use of local government property. Some activities are permitted only under a permit or under a determination and some activities are restricted or prohibited. Offences are created for inappropriate behaviour in or on local government property. A copy of the Shire of Cuballing Local Government Property Local Law may be obtained from the Shire of Cuballing Office, 22 Campbell Street, Cuballing between the hours of 9am and 4.30pm. The Shire of Cuballing, along with the 41 other Wheatbelt local governments, is working towards an integrated Wheatbelt Secondary Collector Freight Routes project. The aim of the project is to develop an interconnected road network for heavy haulage across wheatbelt Local Governments so that freight can be transported across the region linking the "first or final" mile to and from Wheatbelt towns and farms. The goal is to concentrate heavy traffic on specific routes (local roads) which will feed onto Main Roads.
